Nizhny Novgorod is one of the biggest cities in Russia. Earlier it was known as Gorky after the writer Maxim Gorky who was born there. Quite far from cosmopolitan life, this is a historical place where you can see a real Russian style of life with it’s culture and traditions. The city on the Volga was firmly established as the trade capital of the Russian Empire. There are more than six hundred unique historic, architectural, and cultural monuments in the city; that gave grounds to UNESCO to include Nizhny Novgorod in the list of 100 cities of the world which are of great historical and cultural value. A lot of notable people were born here : Russian National Hero of 1612 Kuzma Minin (end of 16th century-1616), inventor Ivan Kulibin (1735-1818), mathematician Nikolai Lobachevsky (1792-1856), writer Maxim Gorky (1868-1936), supermodel Natalia Vodianova (1982), supermodel Anne Vyalitsyna (1986), hockey goaltender Victor Konovalenko (1938-1996).

Rich in history and culture, the city of Nizhny Novgorod is one of the oldest cities in Russia along the famouse Volga river. It has convenient central location in European part, right in the center of the way from Moscow to Kazan so, you will easily reach these great cities as well.
